How to calculate total aggregate space where space appears to be missing

Last Updated:

Applies to

  • ONTAP 9
  • Data ONTAP 8
  • AFF/FAS systems

  • Total aggregate space does not match expected space based on size and number of disks in aggregate
  • In System Manager, aggregate space is lower in Hardware and Diagnostics > Aggregate menu than in Hardware and Diagnostics > Disks menu, causing confusion
    • Example: Aggregate menu shows 9.33 TB, but Disks menu shows the total as 12.44 TB
    • This is because the usable space is listed under Aggregate and the raw physical space is listed under Disks
  • The procedure below describes how to reconcile these two numbers to understand why space appears to be missing
