Why is a newly added disk not auto-partitioned on ADP systems?

Non-MetroCluster Environments

When a disk drive is replaced and assigned to a node in an ADP configuration the disk will remain as a whole disk (unpartitioned) until one of the following operations happens:

If the auto-partitioning fails with a timeout message during any of the above operations, Data ONTAP will automatically attempt to partition the same or another similar drive when available.

MetroCluster Environments

ADP configuration behaves differently in MetroCluster environments.  Review the following for more details:
