Why AFF-A250 BMC is showing the firmware version 15.90X38

Answer

  • Due to a firmware issue, the AFF-A250 BMC device may boot onto its backup firmware image, potentially running an unsupported version of firmware, specifically 15.90X38.
  • There is no impact on data service or other cluster functions when this occurs.
  • Note: In some rare instances, this unsupported firmware can cause unexpected reboots or takeovers
  • The issue is under investigation in bug 1413381

Additional Information

  1. Reboot the BMC from the BMC CLI
    • BMC> bmc reboot
  2. Following reboot the version should be back using a a supported version such as 15.1P1 or 15.2.
  3. If the BMC is still reporting 15.90X38 try to reboot from the ONTAP CLI:
    • system service-processor image update -node <nodename> -baseline true -clear-logs true
  4. If the BMC still doesn't report a supported version:
