Answer

  • There is no recommendation or best practice on the recommended frequency of the update, it will be the admin's choice on the rate of occurance.
  • The update can be done manually or via a schedule.
  • The documentation does recommend a manual update be performed if changes were made before the next scheduled run:

“You should manually update a load-sharing mirror (LSM) relationship if you want changes on the root volume to be visible before the next scheduled update. For example, when a new volume is mounted on the root volume of the SVM, you should update the LSM relationship."
