SMTape backup fails when restoring to newer version of ONTAP

Issue

  • SMTape is used to back up data 
  • A restore is attempted to a version of ONTAP that is more than two versions later than the source
    • Example 1: SMTape is used to back up ONTAP 9.3 data, and the image is restored to ONTAP 9.6 or later
    • Example 2: SMTape is used to back up ONTAP 9.3 data, and then the same system is upgraded to ONTAP 9.6 or later
  • The restore fails with the error The image you are trying to restore is not supported in the current version
