S3 Mirror relationship to a local bucket fails if Intercluster LIF is not configured

Issue

  • The S3 SnapMirror overview document states in the S3 SnapMirror requirements that Intercluster LIFs must be configured only for remote ONTAP targets:
 
Peering (for ONTAP S3 targets)
  • Intercluster LIFs must be configured (for remote ONTAP targets).
  • Source and destination clusters are peered (for remote ONTAP targets).
  • Source and destination storage VMs are peered (for all ONTAP targets).
 
  • But receiving this error in EMS.log when creating the Mirror replication on a local ONTAP target and having no Intercluster LIFs:
Job "Create an S3 SnapMirror relationship between bucket "svm_s3:Bucket1" and bucket "svm_s3_rep:Bucket1-dest"."[id 1234] (Create an S3 SnapMirror relationship between bucket "svm_s3:Bucket1" and bucket "svm_s3_rep:Bucket1-dest".) completed unsuccessfully: Inter-cluster LIF not configured
