How to create and configure Cluster Peering with designated InterCluster LIFs using IPSpaces

Last Updated:

Applies to

  • ONTAP 9
  • Cluster Peer

  • The "full mesh" cluster peer requirement states all InterCluster LIF(s) in a cluster must have connectivity to the peer cluster
  • This requirement can cause problems in an environment with clusters on multiple, disconnected networks
  • For example, cluster peer create could fail with RPC: Remote system error when adding a new cluster peer on another network
  • A cluster peer only requires InterCluster LIF(s) in a specified IPSpace to have connectivity to a peer cluster
    • The IPSpace requirement was introduced in clustered Data ONTAP 8.3.1 and later
  • For environments with clusters on multiple, disconnected networks, IPSpaces are used to specify which InterCluster LIF(s) are used in a cluster peer relationship
