NSE node fails to boot during upgrade to ONTAP 9.3 after KMIP config has been removed

Issue

  • NSE cluster is being upgraded to ONTAP 9.3+
  • Self encrypting drives (SED's) were set to 0x0, key managers removed and external KMIP configuration deleted per this KB.
  • During automatic upgrade (ANDU), one or more nodes will not boot with the following error:

ERROR: kmip_init: Neither kmip.init.interface nor kmip.init.interface.ipv6 found
WARNING: kmip_init: authentication keys might not be available.
