Is there a special procedure or mechanism to protect against data spillage from prior to enabling NVE or NAE?
Applies to
- ONTAP 9
- NetApp Volume Encryption (NVE)
- NetApp Aggregate Encryption (NAE)
Answer
- No. Because of wear-leveling in solid-state drives (SSDs), sensitive data that was on a disk before NVE and NAE were enabled could still be present.
- This problem is not unique to NetApp; any vendor using SSDs has this same problem.
