Can I revert the maxdirsize value to a smaller value?

Answer

Yes, the maxdirsize options can be set to a lower value. But it should be not reduced to a value lower than the current largest directory in the volume. 

  • Reducing the maxdirsize value does not shrink existing directory size.
  • Once a directory size is grown, it cannot be reduced without recreating the directory.

Note: It is highly recommended NOT to modify the maxdirsize settings due to the potential performance impact !!! Review the following:
