Is it possible to rebuild a failed aggregate in ONTAP Select?

Answer

Yes. If the ONTAP Select cluster has enough available spare disks then you can recreate the failed aggregate.

Another method that can be used is destroying the failed aggregate and using the spare disks from the destroyed aggregate to create the new aggregate.

Example:

Destroy the failed aggregate

cluster1::> storage aggregate delete -aggregate aggr1

Verify available spare disks within cluster

cluster1::> storage aggregate show-spare-disks

Create the new aggregate using the spare disks from the failed aggregate

cluster1::> storage aggregate create -aggregate aggr1 -diskcount 1 

Note: Recovering an ONTAP Select instance (node VMs) from VMware backups or 3rd party backups is not supported. You can recover the data from an ONTAP Select cluster from backup methods such as NDMP and VEAAM.
