ONTAP Select VM fails to boot due to missing VMDK disks from Nutanix Backend Storage

Issue

  • The ONTAP Select VM is not reachable; it stopped running and would not boot.

  • Tried to power on the VM, but it is getting powered off

  • All CIFS shares became inaccessible.

  • The VM configuration in vSphere showed 7 disks, but only 2 VMDK disks were visible from the console.

  • Nutanix backend storage reported two disks in “to_remove, migration in progress” state.

  • Boot error observed on ONTAP Select console:

Internal error. Cannot open corrupt replicated database. Automatic recovery attempt has failed or is disabled. Check the event logs for details. This node is not fully operational. Contact support personnel for the root volume recovery procedures.
