Is SnapMirror SVM replication (SVM DR) supported on MetroCluster?
Applies to
- ONTAP 9.5+
- MetroCluster
- SVM-DR
Answer
MetroCluster as the source of the SVM-DR relationship
- Beginning in ONTAP 9.5, SnapMirror storage virtual machine (SVM) replication is supported on MetroCluster configurations with a limitation to one side of MetroCluster
- The source SVM DR relationship information is replicated to the MetroCluster DR Site
- Vservers that are part of a MetroCluster configuration can act as source for only one Vserver DR relationship.
MetroCluster as the destination of the SVM-DR relationship
- Beginning in ONTAP 9.10.1, SnapMirror storage virtual machine (SVM) replication is supported with MetroCluster as the destination via a process documented in TR-4966.
- There is a limitation of only SVM's hosting NAS services.
- Only a single SVM can be migrated at a time.
- See TR-4966 for all requirements and limitations.
MetroCluster as the source and destination of the SVM-DR relationship
- Unsupported for general use.
- For single-use data migration(s): Beginning in ONTAP 9.16.1, SVM Migrate should be used as the alternative to SVM-DR. See the documentation for SVM data mobility to learn more.
