Why dirsize is different between XCP source and destination even for the same data
Applies to
- XCP NFS
- ONTAP 9
- EMC Isilon OneFS
Answer
- When migrating data with NetApp XCP, it is expected behavior that the directory size (dirsize) shown by `ls -ldh` on the destination ONTAP system differs from that on the source file system
- Directory size depends on the internal filesystem layout, not solely on the number of files or their sizes
- As a NAS data migration tool, XCP guarantees file data integrity, but it does not attempt to reproduce the source filesystem’s internal directory layout, as this layout is filesystem-specific
