Answer

  • When migrating data with NetApp XCP, it is expected behavior that the directory size (dirsize) shown by `ls -ldh` on the destination ONTAP system differs from that on the source file system
  • Directory size depends on the internal filesystem layout, not solely on the number of files or their sizes
  • As a NAS data migration tool, XCP guarantees file data integrity, but it does not attempt to reproduce the source filesystem’s internal directory layout, as this layout is filesystem-specific
