ONTAP upgrade paused due to SAN initiator not logged into remaining node

Issue

  • During an ONTAP upgrade to version 9.17.1, the upgrade process pauses
  • cluster image show-update-progress has status paused-on-error:

Node name Status  Status Description

node1     failed  Error: The connection state of SAN initiators could lead to an outage if the upgrade continues.
The following initiator connections have not been reestablished:
Vserver: svm1, LIF: iscsi_lif_b, Initiator: iqn.1996-03.example.com:server1.example.com
Vserver: svm1, LIF: iscsi_lif_b, Initiator: iqn.1996-03.example.com:server2.example.com
