ONTAP SAN SnapMirror Active sync causes network outage with MTU fragmentation

Issue

  • Global broadcasting and network outages during SnapMirror replication
  • Cluster peer interconnect SM-as replication traffic packets fragmented 
  • Using jumbo frames  fails network ping when disallow fragmentation
  • Switch Packet trace identifies packets in wrong VLAN with in network infrastructure 
  • TCP discards,  fragmentation and MTU size limitation of 8932 previous 8972 on network path
Network Test:
net ping -vserver <vserver> -lif <lif> -destination <IP> -record-route true -verbose true -show-detail true -packet-size 8972 -disallow-fragmentation true
