Linux mount fails due to SCSI-3 persistent reservation on non-preferred path

Issue

  • Linux host fails to mount a NetApp LUN
  • Mount operation returns an error similar to:

mount(2) system call failed: Invalid exchange

  • LUN shows SCSI-3 Persistent Reservation registration only, no active reservation
  • ONTAP reports registrant information for a single iSCSI path
  • iSCSI Logical Interface (LIF) associated with the TPGroup is hosted on a node different from the volume’s hosting node
  • Preferred path shows no SCSI-3 registration
  • Write I/O from the preferred path fails with reservation conflict
