FC initiator port offline due to faulty SFP

Issue

  • FC initiator port connected to tape storage through a Cisco switch is offline as seen in SYSCONFIG-A or FC-INIT-PORT-INFO.XML:
slot 0: FC Host Adapter 0c (QLogic 8324 rev. 2, N-port, <OFFLINE (hard)>)
  • Link break seen in EMS:
Tue Feb 13 22:55:20 +0100 [node1: isp2400_intrd: fci.link.break:error]: Link break detected on Fibre Channel adapter 0c.
Tue Feb 13 22:55:50 +0100 [node1: isp2400_timeout_0: fci.link.error:error]: Could not recover link on Fibre Channel adapter 0c after 30 seconds. Taking the adapter offline.
  • Upon reseating or swapping the cable, the adapter comes online for a few seconds then goes offline again:
Mon Feb 19 09:09:39 +0100 [node1: isp2400_asyncd_0: fci.adapter.online:info]: Fibre Channel adapter 0c is now online.
Mon Feb 19 09:11:46 +0100 [node1: isp2400_intrd: fci.link.break:error]: Link break detected on Fibre Channel adapter 0c.

  • Tape drives lost from the node:

Mon Feb 19 09:12:17 +0100 [node1: isp2400_asyncd_0: mlm.tapemc.lun.removed:notice]: The tape LUN 'XXXXXXXXXXX:XXXXXXXXX' (S/N: XXXXXXXXXX) is no longer visible to this node.

  • Switch reports good TX power, but low RX power:
