Btrfs Scrub Unrecoverable Errors (Btrfs Checksum Failed) on Proxmox VM

  • Proxmox Virtual Environment (PVE) using NetApp NVMe/TCP storage

Issue

  • A Proxmox guest VM experienced Btrfs scrub unrecoverable errors, specifically “Btrfs Checksum Failed” after moving its virtual disk to a NetApp NVMe/TCP storage pool.
Example (from guest kernel.log):

[Sun May 17 18:52:10 2026] BTRFS info (device dm-0): scrub: finished on devid 1 with status: 0

[Mon May 18 09:15:46 2026] BTRFS info (device dm-0): scrub: started on devid 1
[Mon May 18 09:16:35 2026] BTRFS info (device sdb1): scrub: started on devid 1
[Mon May 18 09:16:36 2026] ... (multiple unrecoverable scrub errors follow)
  • ONTAP event logs (event log show -message-name raid.rg.scrub*) showed no related errors on the storage side.
