Windows client unable to access CIFS share due to bad password

Issue

  • A Windows client authenticating via NTLM may prompt for a username and password when attempting access a share
  • When the correct credentials are entered into the prompt, an error reports that the credentials are invalid
  • Other clients in the same domain may or may not exhibit the same behavior
  • Packet trace shows STATUS_WRONG_PASSWORD in response to the client's session setup request
