What records should be removed from ONTAP when decommissioning a DC

Answer

  • For DNS:You will need to modify the existing DNS entry using DNS modify command to remove the decommissioned DC to prevent ONTAP from reaching out for name service queries.
  • For AD:We pull the records for domain controllers directly from DNS via the domain discovery process.Once the record for the domain is updated in DNS, domain discovery will need to be performed in ONTAP.

::*> vserver cifs domain discovered-servers reset-servers (netapp.com)

  • If the decommissioned DC is set as a preferred DC, then it should be removed from the list

:::> cifs domain preferred-dc remove -vserver svm1 -domain domain.com -preferred-dc 1.1.1.1
