What are the impacts and necessary actions for vscan server when renaming SVM, CIFS server, or volume names?
Applies to
- ONTAP 9
- CIFS/SMB Protocol
Answer
-
Volume name and junction path change:
- NFS environment: Requires unmounting and remounting with the new junction path.
- CIFS environment:
- If CIFS share is recreated with the new junction path, clients need to remount the share.
- If the original CIFS share name is maintained, update the junction path as per the following guide: Update junction path of a volume for a CIFS share
- Vserver name change:
- CIFS access: No impact.
- DNS registration: If the vServer name is registered as a hostname or FQDN, update the DNS entries accordingly.
- CIFS server name change:
- Impacts:
- Temporary stop of CIFS service (all CIFS connections will be disconnected).
- Existing Active Directory object is deleted and a new object is created with the new name.
- Reference: Impact of modifying, deleting, or recreating a CIFS server on ONTAP
- Impacts:
- vScan Server Considerations
- Treat vScan servers as regular CIFS clients.
- No special changes or actions required for vScan servers beyond the steps mentioned above.
