Applies to

  • ONTAP
  • CIFS/SMB protocol configuration
  • Multi-SVM (Storage Virtual Machine) environments

Issue

  • After creating new CIFS/SMB shares on a Cloud Volumes ONTAP cluster, attempts to connect to the SVM’s CIFS/SMB LIFs via telnet on ports 445 or 139 fail from both production and pre-production servers. This results in an inability to access the newly created shares.
  • Observations:
    • Telnet to the SVM LIF on port 445 or 139 times out or fails to connect.
    • Packet traces show no response from the NetApp LIF to TCP SYN packets on these ports.
