Applies to

  • ONTAP upgrades to ONTAP 9.11.1
  • CIFS
  • All-Flash FAS (AFF)
  • SMB signing or SMB 3 encryption
  • Bug 1494466
  • KTLSD (ONTAP's SSL communication process)

Answer

  • Per Engineering, there is no performance impact to CIFS when upgrading ONTAP to 9.11.1 due to KTLSD performance issues
  • While CIFS does use AES-128-GCM or AES-256-GCM, the encryption does not use KTLSD threads as it is not a SSL based connection but built into the SMB 3 protocol itself
