Is CIFS performance impacted on ONTAP 9.11.1 by KTLSD performance issues?
Applies to
- ONTAP upgrades to ONTAP 9.11.1
- CIFS
- All-Flash FAS (AFF)
- SMB signing or SMB 3 encryption
- Bug 1494466
- KTLSD (ONTAP's SSL communication process)
Answer
- Per Engineering, there is no performance impact to CIFS when upgrading ONTAP to 9.11.1 due to KTLSD performance issues
- The fix to bug 1494466 is in 9.11.1P3
- While CIFS does use AES-128-GCM or AES-256-GCM, the encryption does not use KTLSD threads as it is not a SSL based connection but built into the SMB 3 protocol itself
