Applies to

  • ONTAP 9
  • CIFS/SMB
  • Domain Name Service (DNS)

Issue

  • After an ONTAP upgrade from version 9.9.1 to 9.11.1 the EMS logs report alerts like:
dns.server.timed.out: DNS server 192.168.100.31 did not respond to vserver = Vserver1 within timeout interval.
  • Running the command vserver services name-service dns check, the DNS servers show "down" with the error "no route to host" or "Operation timed out".

Cluster1::> dns check -vserver Vserver1
Name Server
Vserver       Name Server     Status       Status Details
------------- --------------- ------------ --------------------------
Vserver1      192.168.100.31  down           Operation timed out.
Vserver1      192.168.100.32  down           No route to host.
2 entries were displayed.

  • The service policy that the affected LIFs use changed during the upgrade:
  • Prior to the upgrade:
Cluster1::> network interface show -vserver Vserver1 -lif lif1 -fields service-policy,services,vserver,lif
vserver       lif                              service-policy                              services
