Can ONTAP alert of PII being added to files or filenames, or prevent it?
Applies to
- ONTAP 9
- CIFS
Answer
- Addition of Personally Identifiable Information to file contents, or file names exposes businesses and individuals to legal liability, so should be identified or even prevented, if possible.
- There is not a builtin mechanism for this in ONTAP, though it is possible to scan a share for this information with a third-party tool for checking PII compliance.
- There is not currently a NetApp preferred solution for this; choice of tool is left to the discretion of the customer.
- Explore third-party options for scanning CIFS shares for PII present in file names or contents.
