Can External Companies Upload Files Directly to NetApp Devices Without VPN
Applies to
- ONTAP 9
- NFS
- CIFS
Answer
NetApp does not support direct file uploads from external companies or networks without secure network access (such as VPN) to the NFS/CIFS network.
External companies must have network access to the storage system’s NFS or CIFS/SMB shares, which is typically only possible via a secure VPN or equivalent secure method.
- Direct USB connection to NetApp systems for uploading files is not supported.
- Granting direct access from the public internet or external networks is not supported and not secure.
