"Access Denied" when ONTAP does not resolve a user as a member of a NIS group

Issue

  • Users accessing volumes encounter Access Denied
  • Impacted volumes are Unix security style
  • File-level permissions should grant access to the users based on group membership
  • Diagnostic commands such as getxxbyyy getgrlist may show the user is not a member of the appropriate group(s), though NIS shows that the user is a member of the appropriate group(s)
  • NIS is the primary group database source in the ns-switch configuration
  • NIS group database feature is enabled
