High FlexGroup or FlexVol latency due to CIFS ChangeNotify before ONTAP 9.10

  • FlexGroup with CIFS workload
  • FlexVol with CIFS workload
  • NFS if in multiprotocol FlexGroup (Accessed through CIFS and NFS)
  • Change Notify

Issue

  • Elevated CIFS latency, typically for WRITE operations, but also Create, Setattr, Open, Close
  • Output of qos statistics volume latency show shows majority of latency in data column
  • Latency may be seen on a single constituent steady or shift between constituent volumes in rapid succession if multiple directories are read or written to
