What enhancements are made in Inactive data reporting in ONTAP 9.8
Applies to
- FabricPool
- ONTAP 9.8 and later
- Inactive Data Reporting (IDR)
Answer
- Until ONTAP 9.7, the per-FlexVol field
tiering-minimum-cooling-days
could be set only for the volumes hosted on FabricPool aggregates which had tiering-policy set asauto
orsnapshot-only
- In ONTAP 9.8, this is allowed to calculate savings of cold data and can be adjusted from 2 to 183 days
- Starting in ONTAP 9.8, volumes hosted on FabricPool aggregates with tiering-policy
snapshot-only
will not report cold data- For volumes hosted on non-FabricPool aggregates and tiering-policy
snapshot-only
, the reported cold data is for snapshots, not the Active File System (AFS) - Prior to ONTAP 9.8, both AFS and snapshot cold data would be reported.
- For volumes hosted on non-FabricPool aggregates and tiering-policy
- 9.8 also uses Temperature Sensitive Storage Efficiency
Additional Information
To see cold data per volume on FabricPool aggregates, run the command volume show-footprint
