Applies to

  • FabricPool
  • ONTAP 9.8 and later
  • Inactive Data Reporting (IDR)

Answer

  • Until ONTAP 9.7, the per-FlexVol field tiering-minimum-cooling-days could be set only for the volumes hosted on FabricPool aggregates which had tiering-policy set as auto or snapshot-only
    • In ONTAP 9.8, this is allowed to calculate savings of cold data and can be adjusted from 2 to 183 days
  • Starting in ONTAP 9.8, volumes hosted on FabricPool aggregates with tiering-policy snapshot-only will not report cold data
    • For volumes hosted on non-FabricPool aggregates and tiering-policy snapshot-only, the reported cold data is for snapshots, not the Active File System (AFS)
    • Prior to ONTAP 9.8, both AFS and snapshot cold data would be reported.
  • 9.8 also uses Temperature Sensitive Storage Efficiency

Additional Information

To see cold data per volume on FabricPool aggregates, run the command volume show-footprint
