What can be done to preserve snapshot count once the maximum is reached?

Answer

  1. Create a clone volume from the active file system (or desired snapshot) of the volume reaching the snapshot count limit. 
  2. Split the clone from the parent volume. 
  3. Mount the clone volume.
  4. Direct clients to the new mount point of the cloned volume.
  5. Restrict the original volume
