Issue

After running the disk sanitize command on all disks in a NetApp FAS system, the following symptoms are observed:
  • All disks display a “Failed” status in sysconfig -v and disk show -v.
  • ONTAP cannot boot; system enters Maintenance Mode (*> prompt).
  • Commands such as disksanitize status or disk show return errors like:
ERROR: Failed to recognize disks: No disks to read.
Aug 10 11:08:05 [localhost: raid.label.io.readError:notice]: Label read on Disk ... failed with storage error adapter error prevents command from being sent to device. The system will stop using the disk for I/O operations.
Aug 10 11:07:59 [localhost: raid.assim.tree.noRootVol:error]: No usable root volume was found!
  • Occasional “adapter error prevents command from being sent to device” messages after sanitize.
