Issue

Administrator experienced a significant delay (5–10 seconds) between entering the username and receiving the password prompt when logging in to the ONTAP CLI via SSH on the DR site cluster . This delay was consistent across both cluster management and node management LIFs.

  • The DNS check results "Operation timed out" for all the DNS servers

cluster::> vserver services dns check -vserver Test_vserver
                              Name Server
Vserver       Name Server     Status       Status Details
------------- --------------- ------------ --------------------------
test_vserver            down         Operation timed out.
              10.1.XX.XX
test_vserver            down         Operation timed out.
              10.1.XX.XX
test_vserver            down         Operation timed out.
              10.43.XXX.XXX
3 entries were displayed.

  • Event log show output

cluster event log show -message-name *timed.out*
Time                Node             Severity      Event
------------------- ---------------- ------------- ---------------------------
4/10/2026 16:16:03  cluster-01 ERROR    dns.server.timed.out: DNS server 10.1.XX.XX did not respond to vserver = test_vserver within timeout interval.
4/10/2026 16:08:37  cluster-01 ERROR    dns.server.timed.out: DNS server 10.1.XX.XX did not respond to vserver = test_vserver within timeout interval.
2 entries were displayed.

  1. Packet traces showed no response from DNS servers
  2. Pings and traceroutes to DNS servers from the cluster failed

cluster::*> network ping -node cluster-01 -destination 10.1.XX.XX
no answer from 10.1.XX.XX

cluster::*> network traceroute -node cluster-01 -destination 10.1.XX.XX
traceroute to 10.1.XX.XX (10.1.XX.XX), 64 hops max, 40 byte packets
