ONTAP's thick LUN goes offline due to insufficient space in the volume

Issue

LUN in a thick provisioned volume is taken offline because the volume runs out of space.

  • Volume configuration example:
    • Fractional reserve is 100%
    • LUN space reservation is enabled
    • Volume guarantee is volume
    • Volume autogrow is off
    • Snapshot autodelete is off
  • EMS event examples:
    • scsiblade.lun.offline.system:error]: LUN xyz in volume with MSID XXXXXXXXXX on Vserver xyz has been brought offline due to lack of space in the volume.
    • wafl_exempt00: wafl.write.fail.spcres:error]: scsit_lu_1: scsiblade.lun.offline.system:error] wafl_exempt00: wafl.vol.full:notice]
