Applies to

  • ONTAP 9
  • Move a volume
  • volume move fails with Reason: Preparing source volume for cutover: Volume quiesce failed because there are outstanding file system requests on the volume (Volume can't be quiesced as it did not drain in time.)

Answer

  • Heavy system load can prevent volume move from quiescing the source volume in time.
  • This is normal behavior; volume move will keep retrying until the load subsides.
  • Reducing system load can help shorten the cutover time.
