Folder in CIFS share takes long time to list files

Issue

  • When accessing the problematic folder from the CIFS share via the mapped drive in Window Explorer, it takes ~40 seconds to list the content of multiple thousands of files.
  • Sometimes the Windows Explorer greys out and states not responding, but eventually loads the content.
  • Other folders on the same share with similar numbers of files may not be affected.
  • When tracing the access, there is no unexpected roundtrip time/latency observed.
  • When accessing the problematic folder directly via UNC (RUN (Windows-key +R): \\share\folder\ ), it lists files in a few seconds.
