Answer

  • As far as the NFSv4 warning, there are many recorded traffic handling failure scenarios when failovers occur with NFSv4.
  • Some applications are very sensitive to these types of maintenance and cannot tolerate failover scenarios.
  • These are all client-sided issues in how the traffic is handled, usually resulting in stale mounts and stale file handles. This prompted NetApp to place this warning in the upgrade advisors.
  • This warning should only appear when you run the upgrade prechecks.
  •  NFSv4 clients are visible in the output of:
::> vserver nfs connected-clients show

If only NFSv3 is present, this warning will not appear.
