Does "Stateful protocol sessions may disconnect on interface state change" warning in upgrade advisor impact all NFSv4 volumes during ONTAP upgrade?
Applies to
- ONTAP 9
Answer
- As far as the NFSv4 warning, there are many recorded traffic handling failure scenarios when failovers occur with NFSv4.
- Some applications are very sensitive to these types of maintenance and cannot tolerate failover scenarios.
- These are all client-sided issues in how the traffic is handled, usually resulting in stale mounts and stale file handles. This prompted NetApp to place this warning in the upgrade advisors.
- This warning should only appear when you run the upgrade prechecks.
- NFSv4 clients are visible in the output of:
::> vserver nfs connected-clients showAdditional Information
If only NFSv3 is present, this warning will not appear.
