CIFS/SMB application writes slow to FlexCache because it lacks Write Cache oplock lease

Issue

  • It takes a long time for a CIFS client or specific application to write a file to a FlexCache volume
    • A packet trace shows that client sending very inefficient write requests that have short lengths and repeatedly overwrite the same offset
    • An example of this application is called ASC Grid
  • If the same CIFS client writes the same file to a FlexVol or the FlexCache origin, the write takes a normal amount of time
