9.6 upgrade fails to complete due to presence of Vserver active-directory account

Issue

9.6 upgrade task will fail when Vserver active-directory object is present in ONTAP and not in fixed version of ONTAP for 1249216.
 
Error messages are seen after reboot during the upgrade process:
The upgrade is not complete: an upgrade task aborted. This node is not fully operational. Contact support personnel for the upgrade repair procedure.
 
Status Message: The upgrade aborted in the "post-apps" phase on task "Upgrade_Revert of 9.6 CIFS Features". Contact support personnel for the upgrade repair procedure.
 
Mgwd logs will show the following:
