ses.config.diskStackMaxError when disk bays exceeds the maximum number supported

Applies to

  • All FAS and AFF storage systems
  • ONTAP 9.12.1 and newer releases
  • Multiple disk shelves connected to the same NetApp storage HA pair.

Issue

  • Multiple ONTAP event messages like the following:

::> event log show

1/1/2024 00:01:02    node_name    ERROR    ses.config.diskStackMaxError: There are a total of 168 disk bays on shelves attached to channel "0a", which exceeds the maximum number of disk bays (144).

  • The number of disks connected to the storage system is below or equal to the "Max Number of Drives (Total)" in the NetApp HW Universe website for that platform. 
  • The system is able to detect and work with ALL the disks attached to the system, without any issue.
