  • ONTAP 9
  • Cisco switches

Answer

No, there will be no impact if the following criteria are met:
  • The hosts and NetApp storage should have redundant connections to both switches.

  • Any LUNs that are provisioned from NetApp should be available on both hosts through both switches because even if one switch is unavailable, the host will still be able to see the LUN through the redundant path via the second switch.

  • So,  upgrading one switch at a time by making sure the availability of a second switch, upgrade can be performed without any disruptions. Just need to make sure that either of the data ports on NetApp storage is online when one switch is being upgraded.
