Applies to

  • Ontap 9
  • Direct connectivity using ISCSI protocol

Answer

  • While connecting hosts directly to NetApp, from Ontap side,  remove ports from ifgrp and then delete the ifgroup .
  • Additionally, from switch end , we need to remove ports from port channel.
  • No other changes that need to be done from Ontap end while removing LACP and have direct connectivity to host.
  • Please contact NetApp Technical Support or log into the NetApp Support Site to create a technical case. Reference this article for further assistance.

Additional Information

  • With regards to path redundancy, in clustered Data ONTAP, there are two methods to achieve it:
    • One method is to use IFGRPs to aggregate more than one physical port in partnership with a Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP)–enabled switch.
    • Another method is to configure hosts to use Microsoft Multipath I/O (MPIO) over multiple distinct physical links.
  • Both methods allow a storage controller and a host to use aggregated bandwidth, and both can survive the failure of one of the paths from host to storage controller.
  • Infact, for iSCSI it is better to use native host based multipathing across individual links; it is more flexible and provides true load balancing.
