ONTAP upgrade paused, and both nodes in the HA pair have a unknown status

Issue

  • Node A was taken over by Node B.
  • While Node A was being upgraded, Node B went down.
  • Both nodes were unable to boot. Below are the observed errors:

Node A 

[nodea:rdmalib.multichan.count:notice]: Multichan count "(1)" in use on HA partner is notified via path "event processing".
Waiting for reservations to clear
Waiting for reservations to clear

Node B 

[nodeb:raid.assim.tree.noRootVol:error]: No usable root volume was found!

  • During the boot process, some shelves are not being detected by both the nodes.

[nodea:ses.status.shelfCount.info:notice]: The new shelf count is 1, the old shelf count was 4.
