Multiple ethernet ports failed due to to unexpected software error ql:244

  • QLogic CNA 8324 adapter
  • QLogic ISP 8324; Dual-Port 16Gb FC/10GbE PCIe CNA card P/N X1143A 

Issue

  • Multiple ethernet ports on the CNA adapter become unavailable and are not marked as failed by ONTAP.

::> ucadmin show
node_name   1a       cna      target     -        -          offline
node_name   1b       cna      target     -        -          offline

 

  • Following messages can be observed on the system:

node_name   ALERT netif.init.failed: Initialization of network interface e0d failed due to unexpected software error ql:244.
node_name   ALERT netif.init.failed: Initialization of network interface e0c failed due to unexpected software error ql:244.

or card

[node_name:netif.init.failed:ALERT]: Initialization of network interface e1a failed due to unexpected software error ql:244.
[node_name:netif.init.failed:ALERT]: Initialization of network interface e1b failed due to unexpected software error ql:244.

 

  • The ports themselves are no longer displayed by ONTAP.
Cluster::> system node run -node <node name> -command sysconfig -a
