Multiple Chassis Fan failure: System will shut down in 2 minutes - due to faulty Fan

Issue

  • Node goes down due to multiple fan failures and the following events are seen in the event logs:
[Node-01: monitor: monitor.globalStatus.critical:EMERGENCY]: Multiple fans has failed: SysFan3 F2, SysFan3 F1. 
[Node-01: env_mgr: monitor.chassisFan.stop:error]: Chassis fan contains at least one stopped fan: Fan3_1 (failed)
[Node-01: env_mgr: monitor.chassisFan.stop:error]: Chassis fan contains at least one stopped fan: Fan3_2 (failed)
[Node-01: env_mgr: monitor.chassisFanFail.xMinShutdown:EMERGENCY]: Multiple Chassis Fan failure: System will shut down in 2 minutes.
[Node-01: env_mgr: callhome.c.fan.fru.fault:error]: Call home for CHASSIS FAN FRU FAILED: Fan3_1
[Node-01: env_mgr: callhome.c.fan.fru.fault:error]: Call home for CHASSIS FAN FRU FAILED: Fan3_2
  • From the SP-LATEST-IPMI logs, no reading is reported for the faulty fan:

Fan1_1           | 70h | ok  | 29.1 | 12600 RPM
Fan2_1           | 71h | ok  | 29.2 | 12700 RPM
Fan3_1           | 72h | ns  | 29.3 | No Reading
Fan4_1           | 73h | ok  | 29.4 | 12700 RPM

Fan3_2           | 76h | ns  | 29.3 | No Reading

  • Attention LED is lit on the affected fan:
BMC node-01> system fru led show all
1  LED_SYSTEM_ATTEN_01 is on
2  LED_CONTROLLER_ATTEN_01 is on
 
49 LED_FAN_ATTEN_01 is off
50 LED_FAN_ATTEN_02 is off
51 LED_FAN_ATTEN_03 is on
52 LED_FAN_ATTEN_04 is off
