Issue

  • Microsoft SQL services interrupted during multi step staged non-disruptive upgrade of ONTAP from 9.3 - 9.5 - 9.7
  • Only VMware virtualized Windows Server failover clustering with SQL server instance impacted
  • Data is accessed via raw device mappings (RDM) with no indication of all paths down (APD) or permanent device loss (PDL)
  • Cluster shared disks are configured as per VMware best practices and check list and following setup guide
