Disk reassign fails with system id currently owns the persistent reservation in ONTAP 9

Applies to

  • Advanced Disk Partitioning (ADP)
  • NVRAM is being replaced (NVRAM adapter or Motherboard with onboard NVRAM)
  • The node with the replacement has taken over the partner

Issue

When running the disk reassign command from maintenance mode, the following error is seen:
Jul 14 17:24:13 [node-01:diskown.StealingDiskPrevented:notice]: Ownership for disk 0c.10.3P1 (S/N XXXXXXXXXXXXX) cannot be changed because node "node-01" (System ID: 0123456789) currently owns the persistent reservation.
