Applies to

  • ONTAP 9
  • FC SAN
  • AIX host

Issue

  • Hosts (AIX) experienced persistent “DISK OPERATION ERROR” events.
  • Errors were observed during or immediately after the cutover phase of volume move (volmove) operations.
  • Multiple LUNs mapped to a single AIX host were affected.
  • Error:
    DCB4XXXX 03030xxxxxxx hdisk1data82 DISKOPERATIONERROR
    DCB4XXXX 03030xxxxxxx hdisk1data87 DISKOPERATIONERROR
    ...
  • ONTAP EMS logs showed repeated messages similar to:
mgmt.vopl.move.cut.entryFail:error: The volume move operation of volume '<volume name>' ... did not enter the cutover phase. The estimated time to complete cutover is greater than the cutover window that can be tolerated by the user.
  • Noticed low RX power of storage adapter.
  • Note: ONTAP upgrade can also cause disk operation error on the AIX host, check if disk operation errors are still reporting even after ONTAP upgrade completion.
