Amber LED flashing on FC target port post migrating from 8 gig to 16 gig SAN switch

Issue

  • Flashing Amber LED blinking on FC target ports post migrating from 8 gig to 16 gig switch as shown below:

  Node: 01
  ========
  3a --> 16G --> Flashing amber on LED0
  3b --> 16G --> Flashing amber on LED0

  Node: 02
  ========
  3a --> 16G --> Flashing amber on LED0
  3b --> 8G  --> Flashing green on LED1

 

Adapter type:
  ============
  X1143A: QLogic ISP 8324; Dual-Port 16Gb FC/10GbE PCIe CNA

 

  • Only port 3b was having flashing green led as it was still running at 8 gig speed.
  • Post manually setting the port speed to 16 gig on port 3b of Node: 2 and then again changing it to auto, the flashing green led was no more there on LED1 and now LED0 was showing as flashing Amber just like rest of the ports,
  • SFPs used on NetApp FC target ports as well as switch end supports 16 gig.
  • Auto negotiation is enabled on both ends i.e storage as well as SAN switch port.
  1. On Storage end, check configured speed by running the command- fcp adapter show -node <> -adapter <>
  2. On switch end, the configured speed can be checked by running portcfgshow to verify if the speed is set to AN
