AFF A700 node reports SP HBT STOPPED after ONTAP upgrade

  • SP auto-update task stopped at 60% during ONTAP upgrade.

  • Upgrade SP firmware from SP prompt is hung.
SP node02*> sp update http://10.XXX.X.XX:3000/public/netapplog/ontap_fw/SP_fw/A700_FAS9000/SP_FW_308-04175_4.11P1.tar.gz
NOTE: In most cases, ONTAP will automatically update the SP firmware with a compatible firmware version in the background and no action is required from you.
Manually installing the SP firmware using this command may result in
incompatible combinations of ONTAP and SP firmware.
Use of this command is not recommended.

  • (SP HBT MISSED) NOTICE and (SP HBT STOPPED) ALERTS are triggered for above situation.

node-02 INFORMATIONAL sp.heartbeat.resumed: Received IPMI heartbeat from the Service Processor (SP).
node-02 ERROR        sp.heartbeat.stopped: Have not received a IPMI heartbeat from the Service Processor (SP) in last 20 seconds.

  • Takeover/Giveback of the affected node does not help.
